Is it time for Spring Cleaning again already? It sure is, but I can think of about a million things I’d rather do. Unfortunately, my home is begging for the yearly ritual to begin. If yours is too, try these tips.
Let the Fresh Air in
My favorite part of Spring is the first really nice day, when I can open the windows and let the fresh air in. A home just feels stuffy after being closed up all winter. No matter how much Febreze you spray around during colder months, there’s nothing like letting the stale air out and filling your home with fresh air. Try putting fans in a couple of windows to help things along.
Turn on some Tunes
Put on some music while you clean. It really does make a difference. Pick something you know all the words to, so you can sing along. The old saying, “whistle while you work,” really does make sense. Some upbeat music will lighten your mood and help keep you moving.
Enlist Help
There is no such thing as a “housewife.” You are not married to your house, so enlist every member of the family to lend a hand with Spring Cleaning. Even small children can do their part, especially if you make it fun. Let your kids have a contest to see who can pick up the most toys the fastest, or who can fill a trash bag up in the shortest amount of time. Praise them for every item they help with and let them know that the sooner things are cleaned up, the sooner everyone can go outside and play.
It also helps if you let kids pick their own tasks, as long as the list of jobs is age appropriate. Write down certain chores you need completed, drop the pieces of paper into a bowl, and have each child choose a job or two.
