The holidays are a time of entertaining family and friends. Your kitchen can be the heart of those festivities. If it needs a little help before the holidays hit in full force, you might want to get started now with the following frugal ideas for sprucing up your kitchen.
Start with a Clean Sweep
Start at one end of your kitchen and do a through cleaning, including the windows. More light will be let in from outside and bounce off of all of the clean surfaces. Remove extra appliances and anything that you don’t use daily from the countertops. Not only will it look nicer, but you’ll also wind up with extra counter space.
Wipe down all cabinet doors and drawers, especially around the handles, and if you have time, wipe down the walls as well. Don’t forget to make the inside of the microwave sparkle to avoid embarrassment later.
Update Hardware
New cabinet and drawer pulls can really do a lot to spruce up your kitchen, and they require very little cost. Changing out the hardware will give you a fresh new look, and takes only minutes.
You can purchase new hardware in various places, including big box stores, but you’ll get the best selection at your local home improvement store.
Decorate Simply
Use simple but effective decorations and accents to spruce up your kitchen. For a white kitchen, for example, you might hang red snowflakes and put up red cafe curtains. A cherry or oak kitchen might look nice with a few rustic stars hung on the walls, and a rustic basket filled with ornaments on your newly cleared counter. Fill a collection of jars with goodies and paint simple snowmen on the front of each. Just use whatever you have or can get inexpensively.
Happy Holidays!
