Sprucing Up a Small Bathroom

You can have a spa feel in a small bathroom. All it takes is a little careful planning for great success.

Little Bits of Luxury

Small doesn’t have to mean sparse. Invest in some luxuriously thick towels that will add a touch of luxury in your small space. Store your extras in a hall or bedroom closet, to keep bathroom space from seeming cluttered. Consider mounting a towel warmer. Newer models come with space saving features.

Turn the small space into a positive thing. With smaller square footage, you’ll be able to afford higher end materials, such as great floor tile or a back splash. You can splurge in a small space without breaking the bank.

Storage

While it might seem counter-intuitive to tell you to eliminate storage in a small bathroom, the truth is that some standard bathroom storage may make the room seem even smaller than it is. Replace the cabinet sink with a pedestal sink, or better yet, create a vanity using an open piece of iron scrollwork or lattice. It will add style while still making the room seem open and light.

Still, you need some storage. You might be able to use recessed storage in the walls in the form of medicine cabinets. Over the toilet storage units can also provide practicality. choose ones that blend in as much as possible so they will retreat from the eye, again making the bathroom seem spacious.

The trick is to avoid anything that sticks out, as much as you can.

Colors

A bathroom should be a calming place. Choose soft pale colors to make the space seem larger. Neutral and cool colors will give you the serenity of a spa. If you love bold colors, then choose complimentary brights in the towels and small accessories. This will add personality while keeping the space open and appearing larger than it is.
