St. Patrick’s Day Crafts for Preschoolers

St. Patrick’s Day is less than two weeks away, and while the occasion is not surrounded by as much pomp and pageantry as Easter or Valentine’s Day, it’s still a great reason to gather the kids for a day of craft making.

The following green-themed crafts are ideal for younger children, who are eager to craft on their own, but don’t mind getting a helping hand from mom or dad once in a while:

DECORATIVE SHAMROCKS

Materials:

Safety scissors

Glue

Green construction paper

Fruit Loops (you can substitute with colored macaroni)

Markers or crayons

Glitter glue

Glitter

Sequins

Directions:

Draw a shamrock on a large piece of construction paper.

Cut out shamrock.

Decorate shamrock with glitter glue, Fruit Loops, sequins, colored macaroni, etc.

Have child print name or message on shamrock with crayons or markers.

ST. PATRICK’S DAY SHAMROCK CROWN

Materials:

Green construction paper

2 pipe cleaners

Pencil

Scissors

Tape

Stickers, markers, glitter glue, buttons, etc.

Directions:

Draw four shamrocks on green construction paper.

Cut out shamrocks.

Cut 2 or 3 strips of construction paper about 4 inches wide.

Tape the strips end to end to make a really long piece.

Wrap long strip around your child’s head to measure how long you need and trim off the excess.

Decorate the shamrocks with stickers, markers, glitter, etc.

Wrap each pipe cleaner around a pencil to create a springy curl.

Straighten about 1/2-inch of the top and bottom of each spring.

Tape a shamrock onto the top of each pipe cleaner. Flip over and glue or tape the 3rd and 4th shamrock onto the back of the 1st and 2nd (you want to sandwich the pipe cleaner in between the shamrocks).

Tape both pipe cleaners to the long strip of construction paper that you measured around your child’s head, so they either sit at the front of the head or the sides of the head.

Tape the construction paper ends together to form a shamrock crown.
