Stake Activity: Film Festival

One stake activity that would be fun is to have a stake film festival. This is basically a twist on the road show activities that have been done in the past. The activity will be fun and creative and can involve a lot of different ward members. You may want to focus on having the youth involved because they can pass of many different goals and values experiences by participating in this. The Boy Scouts have a Cinematography merit badge that can be passed off easily by completing this assignment. Here are some guidelines to make it a fun a positive experience.

1) You will most likely want to set up a theme because it can tie all the different films together. You can choose a funny or a spiritual theme. Comedy is usually what makes these types of productions enjoyable to watch.

2) You need to set a specific time limit for each video. You do not want to exceed ninety minute of film for the video presentation total. At this point the audience will begin to lose interest. You can easily divide ninety minutes by the number of units in your stake and have that be the time limit for each ward.

3) You should have a ward representative be in charge of the ward production and act as a liaison between the stake and the ward. This person would be in charge of finding video equipment, props and coordinating volunteers for the production.

4) You should gather the films at least two weeks before the activity and preview them. You can make sure that they are appropriate as well as decide a suitable order for showing the films. You may find that it works better to show two close together or that you want to save one for the very end.

5) Be sure to do a good job promoting the activity and announcing the deadlines and date of the activity. The more participation, the more fun this activity will be.
