A few years ago I moved to a new area, and there was a family that lived in the apartment above me. We would exchange hellos, but nothing really went beyond that. However, there was something familiar about them. I was almost certain that they were members of the church. One day I sat outside reading “The Ensign” while my daughter played on the lawn. As the mother walked by she noticed my magazine and then asked if I was LDS. I answered yes. She went on to explain that they were only in this apartment for a few months, while their new house was finished, so they continued to attend their old ward.
It is interesting that you can easily recognize those that belong to the church. I believe it is because of the peace that comes with living the gospel completely. It is not only members that can see the difference. I have been approached many times because people can sense the peace that comes with keeping the commandments. Other times I have been asked questions because they learn from the choices I make to live the Word of Wisdom and to keep all of the commandments.
In Matthew 5:16 it says “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Our actions and our lives every day are a testimony to others that we believe in Christ. As you make the choice each day to keep the commandments and to do the right thing you are standing as a witness for Christ.
Many people are drawn to the peace that those that keep the commandments have. Some will ask questions, some will simply watch and learn by your example. You may be scoffed at on occasion, but generally people are supportive and open to the example you are setting. The peace that the gospel brings naturally attracts those that are seeking peace as well.
