Star Athletes Score Big With New Additions

Shortly after Barry Bonds hit his 756th home run last night he rounded the bases and took his 17-year-old batboy son, Nikolai into his arms. After an emotional embrace the San Francisco Giants’ slugger’s mother, two daughters and wife joined father and son on the field.

Bonds broke the home run record in front of a 43,000-strong home crowd that included his godfather, Hall of Famer Willie Mays. So the momentous occasion truly was a family affair.

In tribute to Bonds’ feat I thought it would be appropriate to salute some other famous athletes on their achievements off the field—namely the blessing of being able to welcome a new member into the family.

Let’s start with Chicago White Sox announcer and former Major League Baseball player Darrin Jackson. He and his wife welcomed a baby girl just yesterday. The couple named their new daughter Tatum. She weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces. Baby Tatum joins her three older siblings Alexandre, Arianna and Adian.

Seattle Mariners infielder Ben Broussard is now the proud papa to two young cheerleaders. His wife Brenda gave birth to daughter Laynie Brooke on Monday. The 30-year-old baseball star and his wife are also the parents to two-year-old daughter Mia Rae.

Meanwhile, Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Chad Durbin and his wife Crystal scored big when they welcomed their first child—-a boy they named Cade Griffin. He was born last Friday and weighed in at 7 pounds, 6 ounces. According to news reports, Cade was born with a medical condition and he remains in the hospital, but he is expected to be released in a few days.

New York Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes and his wife Amanda know what it is like to have a child in the hospital. The couple welcomed twin sons Jaden and Caleb on July 6th—two months before their scheduled due date. The twins spent three weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit.

The news was a bit better for Dallas Cowboys Kyle Kosier and his wife Jennifer. They welcomed their second child, a daughter they named Kylee Rae last Wednesday. She weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces. The couple also has a 19-month-old son, Kade.
