For your picnic table, dining table, or to jazz up the coffee table, help your kids make these fun star shaped centerpieces. They are quick and easy to make and will add a festive flair to your Independence Day celebrations.
Items Needed:
- Cardboard or poster board
- Scissors
- Glue
- Glitter (red, white or silver, and blue)
- Curling Ribbon
- Paper
- Pencil or marker
Directions:
1) Draw or print star patterns in different sizes. You will need at least three of the same size for each project.
2) Trace star patterns onto cardboard or poster board. Cut them out.
3) Spread some glue over each one and sprinkle glitter on. Make one red, one white, and one blue with each set.
4) When dry, stand up the stars. Glue them together at the side points, forming a standing triangle shape.
5) Allow glue to dry, and then glue strips of curling ribbon to the inside, allowing the ribbons to spill out over the edges and cover the areas where you attached the stars together.
6) Make a small, medium, and large star craft and arrange them together in the center of the table for a centerpiece. You can also make different sizes to place around the outside of plain bowls and serving pieces to dress them up.
Variations:
If you prefer not to mess with glitter, look for shiny, metallic-finish paints and paint the stars instead.
You can also wrap stars in aluminum foil and use ribbon for color, or pick up pretty foil wrapping paper or cute fabric in patriotic colors and glue it to the stars instead of glitter. If using white poster board or cardboard, you can cover it with colored cellophane.
Instead of curling the ribbon, you can stick star shaped stickers up and down it and have small stars cascading down the sides.
