If there is one thing celebrities love to turn out for it is benefit events. Last Monday on his nightly show, Larry King hosted a two-hour special that raised almost $9 million for Haiti relief. On the show helping man the phones were such celebs as Paula Abdul, Jennifer Lopez, Mick Jagger, Ringo Starr, Ben Stiller, Will.I.Am, P. Diddy, Ashley Judd, Snoop Dog, Ryan Seacrest, Scarlette Johansson, John Mayer, Nicole Richie, and Joel Madden. There was also an auction of celebrity items. Believe it or not, Jared Leto paid $1,000 for a pair of Larry King’s famous suspenders.
If that wasn’t enough celebrity glam for you, just stay tuned. George Clooney and Wyclef Jean are hosting a “Hope for Haiti” benefit tomorrow night. The special will air at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CNN, BET, the CW, HBO, MTV, VH1, CMT, and MTV, which is a sponsor. Everyone’s favorite vampire Robert Pattinson will be presenting from London, with Clooney presenting from Los Angeles and Jean presenting from New York. Anderson Cooper will be reporting from Haiti during the telethon.
Who will be attending and performing? From the music world, there will be Bono, The Edge, Sting, Justin Timberlake, Stevie Wonder, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, Christina Aguilera, Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow, Shakira, Dave Matthews, John Legend, Jay-Z, Rihanna, and Alicia Keys. From the movie and television world, there will be Jennifer Aniston, Jake Gyllenhaal, Brad Pitt, Anna Kendrick, Zac Efron, Bradley Cooper, Renée Zellweger, Chris Pine, Courtney Cox, David Arquette, Colin Farrell, Gabourey Sidibe, and Emily Blunt. It is still unconfirmed, but Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart may also make an appearance.
Monies raised by the special will go to several organizations including UNICEF, the Red Cross, Oxfam America, Partners in Health, and Jean’s charity, Yele Haiti. Some of the songs heard will be available for download from iTunes, with the proceeds of the sales going to the relief effort.
