When I last wrote about Billy Crystal he was about to suit up in Yankee pinstripes and sah-whing with the big boys against the Pittsburgh Pirates in an exhibition game.
Well, sah-whing he did earlier today against Pittsburgh’s Paul Maholm. And as his equally famous buddy Robin Williams looked on Crystal’s bat actually came in contact with one of Maholm’s fastballs and bounced past first baseman Adam LaRoche into foul territory.
So much for a second career.
Crystal may have struck out, but the funny man who wore No. 60 on the day before his 60th birthday still got a standing ovation from the crowd.
Derek Jeter followed the lifelong Yankees fan in the lineup, with Alex Rodriguez, Bobby Abreu and Robinson Cano among the other regulars also playing. Even so most fans on hand were there to see how well Crystal would perform.
The got their money’s worth in the first 10 minutes of the game.
Crystal now joins the ranks of country crooner Garth Brooks and actor Tom Selleck, as other celebrities who have played in spring training games.
MELISSA JOAN HART STRIKES AGAIN
Melissa Joan Hart is a mommy again.
The 31-year-old actress and singer husband Mark Wilkerson welcomed their second child, a son, on Wednesday.
Braydon Hart Wilkerson was born at 3 p.m. in Los Angeles after 10 hours of labor, weighing 7 lbs., 3 oz., according to Hart’s rep.
Baby Braydon joins two-year-old big brother Mason.
Wilkerson, a member of the band Course of Nature told reporters he was thrilled that his toddler son now has a sibling to play with. (Wilkerson comes from a small family but Hart is the oldest of eight children and has always said she wanted a full house.)
You’ll recall Hart and Wilkerson married in 2003 in Florence, Italy. Their nuptials aired on ABC Family, in the six-episode reality series called “Tying the Knot: The Wedding of Melissa Joan Hart.”
