Start a Holiday Tradition

The holidays are just around the corner. Your first Thanksgiving or Christmas as a couple can be very exciting. Getting prepared for holiday meals and family gatherings is a very special time for couples to bond and feel close to one another. Holidays are a time of year that most of us remember as a child. We remember traditions carried out and events that happened with our loved ones.

Now that you are married and beginning a new life, you can begin to make and create your own holiday traditions and memories.

Having a holiday tradition for your family does not have to be difficult or time consuming. You just want to create an activity that is special to you and your spouse. You can then continue the tradition after you have children.

One Christmas tradition that I enjoy involves Christmas tree ornaments. Each year that I have been married, I have added an ornament to the tree. I have tried to find an ornament that symbolizes an event from our year. For example, the first year can be a newly married ornament. After that you may choose an ornament that symbolizes a vacation or a place that you visited. When you are expecting, you can buy a mommy-to-be ornament.

Other family traditions that I have heard of include things like a special breakfast on Christmas morning or planting your Christmas tree each year. Your tradition can be fun, such as having your picture made with Santa each holiday season or finding the quirkiest Christmas card picture to send out to friends.

You can also begin a more serious and thoughtful tradition by visiting children in the hospital or purchasing gifts for a child off of the angel tree.

No matter what type of tradition you and your mate choose to begin, it is a good idea to start one. A family tradition gives you and your family many memories for the future.
