Many of the women in my scrapbooking club credit their children for inspiring them to scrapbook. Whereas I created my first scrapbook following a summer-long trip across the United States, the ladies I met through my local scrapbooking club say they would have never dreamed of designing layouts if it were not for the birth of their kids and the desire to document their baby’s milestones.
Baby scrapbooks are some of the most popular themed memory albums around. If your first venture into the world of scrapbooking is a baby memory book, then I would suggest keeping it simple. It’s your first book, and you are experimenting with new techniques, so don’t pressure yourself into making incredibly ornate layouts.
Rather, start off easy. Work on the page title first. Short scrapbook sayings often work well as page titles, especially if you are loading the page with a bunch of photos. Fortunately, with baby scrapbooks the cute pictures speak volumes, so you don’t have to write much more than the title. Some titles that work well for baby-themed layouts include:
*A Star is Born
*Bundle of Joy
*Children Are the Heart of the Family
*Special Delivery
*Watch Me Grow
*Wishes Do Come True
*Great Expectations
*I’m Going Places
*Loved to Pieces
Another way to keep it simple when scrapping baby shots is to use short quotes. Famous sayings can be used as embellishments for a layout. It also serves as a substitute for journaling. Some popular baby quotes include:
“Every child begins the world again….” Henry David Thoreau
“What good mothers and fathers instinctively feel like doing for their babies is usually best after all.” Benjamin Spock
“At a child’s birth, if a mother could ask a fairy godmother to endow it with the most useful gift, that gift would be curiosity.” Eleanor Roosevelt
“Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.” Elizabeth Stone
“Babies are such a nice way to start people.” Don Herrold
Keeping the layout simple helps keep the focus on the items you have on the page, so choose your best shots and let your baby shine.
