Staying Hydrated

Ways to Stay Hydrated:

Add flavor to your water: Water can get boring. There are times I seek flavor which causes me to drink something other than water. When you add another drink into the equation you must take in account calories. I find it wasteful to drink my calories. So a way I make drinking water more fun is adding lemon, lime, cucumber, or watermelon, orange or grapefruit to add some fun. You can also find carbonated naturally flavored (no fake sugar or otherwise) water to mix things up a bit. You can also add a sprig of mint from what I have been told. I do not like mint so this will be something you need to experiment with.

Ice: Ice chips are a great way to get hydrated while having something in your mouth. A lot of cravings are just for chewing. Biting ice is not the best for your teeth but sucking on ice chips may prevent you from grabbing a bag of potato chips. I know that sounds insane but give it a shot. When it comes to mindless chewing, it won’t matter if it is an ice chip or a potato chip since it is not food you are craving.

Drink 16 ounces of water with each meal: Drink about 8 ounces of water before you eat. This will help prevent overeating. Many times thirst presents as hunger so tame your thirst first. Then through out your meal drink about another 8 ounces. Once you get through 3 meals and a snack you will have effortlessly consumed the water your body needs.

Hidden Water: Looking for more watering holes? Watermelon is 90% water. Oranges, grapefruit and melon are great sources of water. On the veggie side you can get water from celery, romaine lettuce, peppers and tomatoes.
