Staying Slim for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is peeking around the corner and bringing temptation with it. Between mashed potatoes made with sour cream and sugar filled pecan pie your waist will beg for mercy. The thought alone is sure to pack on several pounds. For many Thanksgiving is a time to give up on dieting or a day off from dieting. Since dieters do not see a way out of this turkey trap they simply lay down arms and pick up forks filled with pie. But it does not have to be your last stand with you holding the custard.

Tips for Staying on Track this Thanksgiving

Eat before the feast. No need to eat a full dinner just a snack or protein drink so you are not sitting at a table of temptation with ravishing hunger.

Eat salad and drink water. Make sure you eat a salad before diving in turkey and dressing. Drinking water will save you calories and keep you full. With pumpkin pie on the table you won’t want to waste fat and calories on a drink.

Bring a dish. Since many holiday tables are not diet friendly you can save a fellow dieter and yourself by bringing a dish. Bring enough to share and show off that low fat does not mean tasteless. It will give you an option and make you a gracious guest.

Host the event. Why not host the event yourself? If you host you can control the menu. Ask guests to bring salad and vegetable sides. You can provide low fat desserts, low sugar punch, cauliflower mock mashed potatoes, I know that may sound unappealing at first glance but give it a chance. I think more people than you realize will be excited to not wake up the next morning with an extra five pounds.

Happy Thanksgiving!
