Still Growing: More and more families homeschooling

A recent government survey is revealing that homeschooling is becoming more and more popular. In fact, that last for years has seen a growth rate of 36 percent according to this article at Christianpost.com.

Meanwhile, it appears that the ratio of Evangelical homeschooling to other homeschoolers is changing. U.S. News and World Report reports that As Homeschooling Surges, the Evangelical Share Drops. While a great deal of homeschoolers do so in order to give their child an education that does not preclude religion, the evangelical coup on homeschooling is losing its grip. As an evangelical Christian, I have to say that this does not really bother because I feel each family should be able to homeschool their children in the manner that works best for them without taking away rights of other homeschoolers. If the majority of the overall population is non-evangelical, than it makes sense that the ratio would be the same within the homeschooling world.

As One News Now reports
, “home schooling is not just a Christian institution. Although 70 to 75 percent of home schoolers are Christian, he points out that Muslims, agnostics, New Agers, and others choose to educate their children at home as well.”

These reports of the growth rate of homeschooling as well as ratio of what kind of homeschooler to what kind of homeschooler are extremely subjective as many homeschoolers choose not to participate in the polls and surveys that attempt to collect data on homeschooling.

Still, the numbers do give us a picture into the mysterious world known as homeschooling and it is plain that homeschooling has become less and less mysterious as more families decide that homeschooling is not quite as radical as it seems and joins the ranks.
