Still Working On It

Well we made it through the first week back to school. Funny how some of the things I vowed would be different…well, let’s just say we are still working on them; for instance, the dreaded wake up call.

I knew I would have to repeat myself several times for my youngest son. And now that he moved to the upstairs bedroom of our home (which used to belong to my oldest son), it is a lot more inconvenient to try and get him up.

Last year we had a lot of unpleasant mornings in trying to get him moving. I vowed to have more patience this year. Still working on that.-

I also vowed that we would get out the door in enough time that I wouldn’t feel like I have to go over the speed limit to get to school. Especially since I have a daughter who will be taking driver’s education in a couple of months…I want to be a good example.

Yeah, still working on that.

Then there was the vow I made that I would not let myself get worked up or irritated when in the drop off lines at school. So what if one parent was blocking the way? Who cares if someone’s kid was taking forever to get out of their car…meanwhile, traffic is backing up. What’s the big deal if I get cut off?

Oh boy, definitely still working on that one.

There have been other vows…on how I will handle homework issues, study time, how late they can stay up, when electronic devices will be turned off, and so much more. All I can say is…still working on that.

Then I have my own schedule to try and get in order, now that I don’t have my leisurely mornings and the interruptions with driving kids to and from school…you guessed it, still working on it.

What are you working on for this new school year?
