Stock Up Time

Pregnancy lasts about nine months and those nine months helps prepare the fetus for life outside the womb and it gives mom time to prepare for what her life will be like when the baby is out of the womb. There are a lot of things we can’t prepare for, but there’s a great deal more that we can prepare for. When it comes to taking advantage of these nine months, here’s a list of things that are worth stocking up on before the baby is born.

  • Television Seasons on DVD – There will be plenty of nights where you are up at all kinds of strange hours – do yourself a favor and have something worth watching rather than relying on 150 channels of nothing much to see
  • AA, AAA, C and D batteries – Pretty much every gadget, toy and dohickey you use will need batteries of some kind. The last thing you want to do is have the mobile run out of batteries in the middle of the night. Keeping some on hand at all times saves you lots of headache and stress!
  • Maxi-Pads – You need them for weeks after the baby is born and your husband does not want to go shopping for them – if you stock up on them, you get what you want and they’re available for you
  • Books – Have two or three good books that you want to read put aside, not books that might be worth reading, but books you really want to read. Keep one tucked inside the bag you will take to the hospital
  • Comfy Pajamas – Find two or three different sets of really comfortable pajamas – they’re great if you’re going to be in your night clothes for hours at a time and you want something that’s really comfortable at the hospital
  • Journal – Keep a journal throughout your pregnancy and keep track of various bits of data that you will be accumulating – write down your feelings at your sonograms, at your monthly, bi weekly and finally your weekly visits – you can make it funny and anecdotal, you can make it philosophical and musing, you can make it all of these things – but keep track – there will be nights after the baby is born when you are reflecting back on those days and you will find wisdom, amusement and wonderful memories in those words.
