Stockpile These Foods Now

From natural disasters to financial crisis to food scarcity, it is important that you are prepared to provide your family with good, nutritious food. Stocking up on non-perishable food is one way to take care of your family.

One interesting thing that not too many people think about is the fact that in an emergency, you will probably be eating more than usual. This is because it is likely that your body will be expending extra energy. You’ll want the calories. Don’t forget about fiber too, to keep your body running well.

While you still want to be able to enjoy your food, your first priority should be to meet your basic needs. Still, many of the foods that you should be stockpiling right now for emergencies is very tasty and filling!

The following list is not all-encompassing, but I wanted to highlight these particular foods because predications are that they will be subject to price increases soon.

Cereals

Multigrain cereal is the best type of cereal to stockpile. If you can, you want to focus on individual servings. This is because larger boxes of cereal can go stale once it is opened. Having the smaller servings reduces this risk and makes your cereal supply last longer.

Trail Mixes

Choose a variety of trail mixes that contain both fruits and nuts. Trail mix is a high-energy food and very convenient. It can be easily eaten on the go, which you may need to do in an emergency. For the freshest results, choose trail mix that is packaged in vaccum-packed containers. Your trail mix will stay fresh longer this way.

Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is a wonderful source of protein and healthy fat, making it a great source of energy. The nice thing about peanut butter, is that it gives you all of those things but doesn’t have to be refrigerated. Refrigeration may not be available in an emergency.

Crackers

Crackers are a good source of carbohydrates and can last much longer than bread. You should choose a combination of white crackers and whole wheat crackers. The whole wheat crackers offer more nutrition and fiber, but they may have a shorter shelf life than do crackers made with white flour.
