Stop The Spread of Germs

Since everyone around me seems to be sick, getting sick or just getting over being sick, I think its past time to germ proof my home. I know the number one way to stop the spread of germs is to wash your hands, well and often. I’ve always reminded Hailey that she should wash her hands with hot soapy water, often and not touch her face after touching money, door handles or the like. I’ve also always reminded her to wash her hands before she eats, but like most teenagers she doesn’t think of grabbing food at the drive through as actual eating! I don’t believe that excessive use of hand sanitizers is good for us either so I just have to make sure we are as germ free as possible in other areas.

Some ways to help prevent the spread of germs during cold and flu season:

*Frequently wipe down door knobs, light switches and the refrigerator handle.
*If your child is small make sure that their toys are washed frequently, especially if they are at the age where everything goes into their mouths.
*Toothbrushes- replace them frequently during cold season, I shoot for once a month and if I don’t get a chance to I soak them in hydrogen peroxide to kill germs. Also keep those toothbrushes covered, the bathroom isn’t exactly the most germ free place to keep something that you put in your mouth several times a day.
*Wash your hands as soon as you get home, you are exposed to other people’s germs at work or the grocery store so first thing, wash them off.
*Teach your children to sneeze into the crook of their elbow if they don’t have a tissue.
*Have a separate hand towel for each family member in the bathroom, especially when one of you is sick

You can’t prevent all colds and tummy bugs, but with a little effort you may be able to reduce the spread of germs at home and if you are lucky, have fewer sick days.
