Stretch Routines – Simple Tips to Follow

Okay, so we’ve talked about why you need to stretch. Let’s talk about some simple rules to follow while you are stretching in order to get the most benefits from your workout. It’s also important to note here that you can stretch daily whether it’s a part of your actual workout or not. For example, I try to stretch every morning when I get up – I spend ten to fifteen minutes getting everything limber and shaking off the stiffness and while I do some mild stretching when I actually get to my workout

So with that in mind, let’s talk about these tips that you should follow to help your stretch routines out:

  • Stretch Daily – As I mentioned above, you should make stretching a part of your daily routine whether you are working out or not that day
  • Don’t Bounce Through Your Stretches – You should take your time and move through each position and don’t just jerk your muscles around – jerking or snapping can actually lead to injury
  • Pay attention to the stress you feel in the stretch – As you stretch out, you will feel the tension and stress, pay attention to it because when then tension is painful or too much, you need to pull back a little from it. Focus on your attention on the areas of your body where you are stretching – the stretch should feel uncomfortable, but it should never feel agonizing
  • Utilize breathing techniques in your stretching – As you stretch, take two or three long breaths as you hold the stretch and another long breath as you relax from it – breathing through the stretches can actually help you to avoid bouncing or jerking because you are maintaining a level of calm through the stretch

What other tips can you think of to help a basic stretching routine?
