Study the Articles of Faith

Do you know the Articles of Faith? In Primary we are encouraged to memorize the Articles of Faith in order to learn the Faith in God awards. Although I did memorize each Article of Faith when I was a child, I feel that I failed to grasp the entire meaning of these powerful statements. I didn’t appreciate that they answered questions that so many people struggle with nor did I fully understand what each one meant.

As an adult I have met so many people that have struggled with various aspects of Christianity. One common area is the nature of the Godhead. Another is the organization of the different churches or even the proper way to be baptized. The Articles of Faith explain the doctrine and the basic beliefs of the church. This helps to stop the confusion that many others may have.

As I grew older I began to understand exactly what the Articles of Faith meant. It is wonderful to learn the doctrines and to have questions answered. As I have read, studied and pondered the Articles of Faith, my understanding gospel has grown. I have realized the power that each of these statements has.

It is important to study the Articles of Faith and to teach them to your children. You may consider studying each Article of Faith with your family. You can memorize them together and discuss the things that they teach. They will also prepare you to answer questions that others may have about the church.

As you study and memorize the Articles of Faith you can gain an increased testimony of the gospel. It is important to realize that the Articles of Faith were written by Joseph Smith to explain the basic principles of the gospel. You can find them at the end of The Pearl of Great Price.
