We all have heard the breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Not being a breakfast person, I was hoping there was no truth to that. However, the statement is not your mom’s way of getting you to eat a healthy breakfast or making you get up earlier to get ready for school, it is pure truth. Eating breakfast helps maintain a healthy body weight and increases your metabolic rate. If you eat a healthy breakfast it will keep you from mindlessly snacking throughout the day. There’s no two ways about it what you eat for breakfast is just as important as eating breakfast.
So you are not a breakfast eater? You feel you have no time for breakfast? I have a simple solution. Find a healthy breakfast and make time to eat it. Yes, it is that important. Don’t talk back to me or roll your eyes, you need a healthy breakfast to keep you going. People who skip breakfast are more likely to be obese. Now that must appeal to your vanity, right? Let’s appeal to your sense of self worth for a moment. You are a growing individual whose body relies on a regular intake of food for healthy brain development. Kids who eat breakfast have a longer attention span and do better in math. Your ability to process information will be greater if you eat a solid breakfast. Taking the time out to for the first step of the day will be worth every minute. And who knows, maybe you won’t be up so late doing school work if you eat breakfast and get your mind going early on in the day.
Ideas for a healthy breakfast:
Oatmeal and fruit
Yogurt parfait with cereal, nuts, and/or fruit
Leftovers!
Whole grain cereal with skim milk or soy milk
I highly recommend you eat protein with your breakfast. Lean turkey bacon or sausages are great alternatives to high fat breakfast meat. Your body is craving protein after a long night of fasting and if you do not provide it what it wants it will strip your muscles for it. So eat up!
