Summer is here and birthdays can be planned outdoors and with fun summer themes. One theme my children had a great time with was Hawaiian theme. My youngest daughter has a birthday in the summer and everyone looks forward to a fun time celebrating. Our Hawaiian theme last year appealed to all ages. We had a pool, lays, hula skirts, food, cake and more! Everyone loved the cake and the cupcakes. Here is how to make your own simple and easy hula cake.
Hula Cake
1 package White Cake Mix
1 package any flavored Jello
Directions:
Pour cake mix into a bowl and add in the Jello mix. Make cake according to package direction.
Simple! The cake will have a light summery flavor with little effort and it is easy on the budget.
The little touches that count:
Piping gel
Brown sugar
Blue food coloring
Butterceam frosting
Array of Hawaiian themed decorations such as palm trees and flamingos
Water:
To make water simply mix the desired color of blue food coloring with the piping gel. Add the blue food coloring in slowly. You can always add more but you cannot take some out. Once you achieve your desired color simply add to the cake on top of a layer of white buttercream frosting.
Beach:
Brown sugar or even crushed graham crackers will give a sandy effect when sprinkled on the cake. Sprinkle generously to give the “beach” effect.
Once you have your basics, cake, blue piping gel for water and crushed graham crackers or brown sugar for sand, you have the basis for building your own unique cake and or cupcakes. The little plastic palm trees you can find at a cake decorating store are a fun way to dress up the cake and keep it in theme. Using small toys or plastic cake decorations along with the tips above will help you achieve a fun cake without knowing how to pipe icing.
