Summertime comes with its own set of challenges, such as how to keep the sand out of the car or what to do when the kiddie pool is full of mold. Here are some quick summer fixes and tips to get through the season with ease.
Sandy Bottom (and everywhere else)
No matter how much you try to get all of the sand off before you get into the car, inevitably it seems that half of the beach gets in. Some beaches offer an outdoor shower, but not all. And some little ones want nothing to do with the shower, or you want nothing to do with having soaking wet kids right before you get into the car.
Here is the solution. Take along some baby powder. Sprinkle the powder on everyone, and the sand will just slip right off!
Who’s for Dinner
I’m one of those people that has what we call “sweet blood.” The one mosquito, chigger or other biting insect for miles around will make a beeline to my skin and bite me all up. My children have inherited this attraction.
I don’t really like to constantly spay chemicals on my kids or have them inhale the chemicals etc., but I don’t want them eaten alive either. One thing that I have found to work is to rub any exposed skin with undiluted white vinegar. The smell fades after a few minutes but it still discourages insects from biting.
Moldy Pool
If your kiddie or wading pool has developed any mold or even just plain stubborn dirt from being outside all summer, here is one trick to get it clean again. Simply flush out the pool with warm water plus baking soda. There is usually no scrubbing needed, but you can soak a bit for stubborn dirt and mold. No bleach needed!
