Summer Is a Great Time to Turn Your Craft into a Business

craft business How fun would it be if you could turn your fun hobby into a cash making business? Frugal living is about saving, but it is also about extending your resources, such as by earning a little extra cash. So many have already done it. The best part? You get to decide how much work you put into it, and you get to have fun at the same time.

Summer is an idea time to launch a home business. The weather is nice and opportunities to sell your items in the community abound. It will also give potential customers a chance to get to know your products and your business, and give you a chance to iron out the kinks, before the busy holiday shopping season.

Here are the steps that you need to take to turn your craft into a business.

First, figure out how much it costs you to create your craft and how much profit is reasonable. Do some research to see what similar items sell for. Of course, the more unique your idea is, the better.

Next, get the word out there. Build excitement about your product by exposure. You want to put it into as many hands as possible. You can give your products as gifts, participate in local shows and farmers markets, or even teach a class about your craft.

Tweak your idea to make it one that people want. Figure out who is most interested in your craft. Is it a woman? How old? Is she a business woman? Is she a parent? Where does your buyer usually shop? How can you make it more appealing to your potential buyer? The more you know about who might be interested in your products, the more likely you will be successful.

In addition to selling locally, get online and take advantage of the many different marketplaces out there. While online, take advantage of social media, such as Facebook and Twitter to spread the word about your craft. Frequently upload photos of your products and respond to any inquires promptly.

By the time the late fall rolls around, you should be in a solid position with your new business!
