It’s that time of year again, the kids are out of school, the sun is out, and the kids are itching to get outside and play! This is my favorite time of year and the summer weather has definitely hit here in Utah! As usual the first few weeks of summer are filled with excitement. The kids are eager to get outside and play with their friends, but after the first few weeks the newness has worn off and you are left trying to find something to occupy your children until school starts back up again in the fall.
For most of us money is pretty tight, but there are plenty of fun summer activities to do with the kids right here at home that cost virtually nothing. Have some kind of activity planned each day of the week. Let them run through the sprinklers today, send them on a nature walk tomorrow, a scavenger hunt the next day. They could even spend day making cookies for a neighbor. The best thing to do is keep them busy! Don’t schedule too much that they don’t have any down time, but keep them occupied enough that they aren’t bored in front of the TV either.
Plan something exciting for them each week so they have something to look forward too. This could be something as simple as camping out in the back yard or as elaborate as a summer road trip with some friends. Let them get in on the planning. They will love being able to help choose the activities you do together and it will create memories that last a life time!
If you are having a hard time coming up with activities on your own, look online to see if you can get some ideas that way. Website like Pinterest have tons of ideas for kids of all ages to get in on the fun! Don’t let your summer pass you by! Three months goes by fast when you are having fun!
