They rank up there with cookouts, camping and concerts. Theme parks are an essential part of summer, and this year several major amusement parks are going interactive in ways that might surprise you.
If your summer travel plans include visiting one of the following theme parks, then get ready to do more than just sit back and enjoy the thrill rides. Parks including Disneyland, Six Flags, and Legoland are catering to kids who want to be part of the action. Take a look:
Disneyland
Before he became “Wacko Jacko,” the later King of Pop, Michael Jackson was the star of one of Disneyland’s most popular exhibits—-Captain EO. It’s been more than a decade since Jackson’s space age alter ego left the stage at Tomorrowland, but now he’s back bigger and better than ever. The 17-minute, 3-D movie by George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola stars Jackson as the quirky head of an alien crew. The flick has more special effects than some Hollywood blockbusters.
Six Flags Great America
Video game enthusiasts will be in heaven this summer at the popular Six Flags’ park in Gurnee, Illinois. Great America just unveiled a new interactive attraction called MagiQuest, which features 10,000 square feet of game space. Guests can purchase a wireless “magic” wand that unlocks more than 80 special effects. The attraction also includes video challenges, multiple game levels, and a duel with a massive dragon to save a simulated princess.
Legoland
Proving that you don’t have to have a ton of video and electronic equipment to be interactive, Legoland California, is splashing into summer with a new 5.5-acre water park. The attraction features a maze of water slides, a zoo-themed water play center for toddlers and a variety of LEGO characters that spray and splash water. Guests can also float on a lazy river on rafts they design themselves.
