Digital cameras get a real workout during the summer months. From family trips to the beach, fireworks displays, backyard barbeques and camping trips, the opportunities to snag super snapshots are virtually unlimited.
You don’t need to be a professional to take frame worthy photos of your family having fun in the sun. Rather, simply follow these tips to ensure you’re getting the best shots possible:
PRACTICE
Practice makes perfect–regardless of whether you are shooting a huge family reunion or an intimate picnic for two. A few days before an important event, spend some time reading your digital camera’s manual. Then, try out every feature the camera has to offer. By getting acquainted with all of your camera’s capabilities, you will be better able to adjust to different shooting conditions.
GET CREATIVE
There’s nothing wrong with wanting your kids to pose in certain shots, but don’t get stuck in a rut. Consider experimenting with spontaneous action shots. For example, instead of posing your son next to a picnic basket, take a shot of him as he bites into a big, juicy slice of watermelon. Likewise, instead of lining the kids under a tree at the park, snap them chasing each other around in a grassy area.
STAY STEADY
This is especially important if you are shooting a Fourth of July fireworks display. Consider traveling with a tripod if possible. A tripod helps reduce camera shake and subsequent blurry images. If you don’t own a tripod, then hold your digital camera close to your face with your elbows touching your sides. This will allow you to brace your digital camera and cut down on shaky photos. Also, when you snap a picture, keep the shutter button down until the camera completes the shot. Once you’ve snapped a few winners, then experiment with exposure length, light settings and remote shutters.
