Summer Lovin’: New York and Las Vegas

Still looking for the perfect place to spend part of your summer vacation? Take a look at why these famous cities should be at the top of your list:

NEW YORK

So you didn’t make it there in time to see Pope Benedict XVI preside over Sunday Mass, but that’s no reason to by pass the chance to sit in a seat at New York City’s Yankee Stadium, especially since time is running out for you to do so.

This season marks the last that sports fans will be gathering in the House that Ruth Built. The 85-year-old Bronx ballpark is being replaced by a $1.3 billion stadium across the street, which means every New Yorker and his brother are trying to get seats for a game before the gates close for good.

At this point your chances of scoring a game ticket are slim (at best), but you’re not out yet. Tickets are still available for daily one-hour, behind-the-scenes tours of the stadium–including the field, dugout, press box, clubhouse and Monument Park. Reservations are recommended; cost is $20 for adults and $15 for seniors and children under 14.

LAS VEGAS

I must admit, prior to making a reservation at a resort the first thing I do is check out the pool. My brothers and I have been doing it since we were kids and over the years we have yet to shake our pool addiction. Which is why I know exactly where we will be staying the next time we plan a family reunion in Sin City.

The MGM Grand Hotel & Casino just opened Wet Republic, a 53,000-square-foot swim/lounge/party complex on its property and it’s already creating quite a buzz.

Talk about a party pool. According to hotel execs, Wet Republic is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, and includes eight pools (including the Strip’s first pair of saltwater pools) and a VIP area that features couches, curtained cabanas, and frozen treats such as Red Bull popsicles.

And the best part (especially for families with children)… unlike some other Vegas lodgings with massive outdoor recreation areas, Wet Republic has a no topless sunbathing policy.
