What will your kids be doing over summer vacation? One way for parents to keep their children practicing the skills they need for the next school year is to get them into a summer reading program.
Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Journal
Every summer, Barnes & Noble has a summer reading program for kids who will be in grades 1-6 in the next school year. You can download the 2022 version of the reading journal. Here are the rules:
Read any eight books this summer and record them in this Summer Reading Journal. Tell us which part of the book is your favorite, and why.
Bring your completed journal to a Barnes & Noble store between July 1 and August 31, 2022.
Choose your free reading adventure from the books listed below.
The free book selections are split into books appropriate for different ages. The first collection is for grades 1 & 2. The second collection is for grades 3 & 4. The third collection is for grades 5 & 6.
Scholastic Summer Reading Program
The Scholastic Summer Reading Program started May 9, 2022, and will end on August 19, 2022. It is an exciting, free, and safe summer reading experience that helps to provide books to kids with limited or no access over the summer, keeping every child reading.
To participate in this program, kids can visit the summer zone in Scholastic Home Base, a completely free digital destination which offers stores, characters, games, and a community of readers. Home Base is moderated for safety 24/7.
Kids will be able to track their summer reading by reading every day and maintaining a Reading Streak in Home Base. The longer a child extends their Reading Streak, the more digital experiences they earn. Kids can read any book of their choice and download and print a report of their reading progress at any time.
Reading Is Fundamental
Reading Is Fundamental is committed a literate America by inspiring a passion for reading among all children, providing quality content to make an impact and engaging communities in the solution to give ever child the fundamentals for success.
For 2022, Reading Is Fundamental is offering a Reading Road Trip. Parents can download fun things for their child that will encourage reading.
One is a travel brochure, which kids can use to pick one of their favorite locations and create a colorful overview of their road trip. Another is a bingo card which your child can use to complete as many of the activities this summer as they can. The third is a road trip map, which your child can use by reading a book and learning about a new destination. They can color in part of the map after they finish the book.
There is also a selection of books for a reading adventure, with books focusing on one state each week. The books focus on California, Arizona, Wyoming, Tennessee, New York, and Washington D.C.
