There is nothing quite like hitting the highway in a half-car, half-house contraption in order to save money on food and lodging.
If you can afford the rental and the gas, then vacationing in an RV is not a bad option considering its versatility. However, before you head out on the open road in one of these homes on wheels there are a few factors to consider:
Packing
Regardless of the size of your RV, packing wisely is always a good idea. This is especially true when it comes to kitchen items. If you are traveling with children, then you might consider stocking up on paper or plastic plates, bowls, cups, and utensils. However, you should pack regular pots and pans, so that you can cook in the RV. Doing so can help you save time and money. However, don’t go overboard. For example, instead of packing a ton of metal skewers for marshmallow roasting, just straighten some clothes hangers or use sticks to get the job done. In addition, choose food items carefully. You don’t want to take up precious space in your RV’s kitchen storing items your family may not eat on the trip. Also, instead of buying large-sized condiments, pick up small, disposable packets the next time you are at a fast food restaurant.
Cleaning
You don’t need to bring along every cleaning item known to man, but you will want to have a few essentials on hand. Keep a broom and dustpan in the RV, as well as a few sponges and a scrubbing brush for the bathroom. You’ll also want to bring along some soap and an all-purpose cleaner.
Organize
Since space is at a premium in a cramped RV, it is critical to keep things organized. For example, pack loose items in plastic containers with lids to keep them from moving around or falling if the RV should stop suddenly. Mesh bags are also nice to have to keep bathroom items, and don’t forget to pack a collapsible hamper for laundry storage.
