I live in Wisconsin so it’s no surprise that our airwaves have been saturated with summer tourism ads heralding Michigan’s incredible natural wonders.
From its spectacular lakes to its amazing waterfalls and beautiful beaches the state is well displayed in the new 2008 Pure Michigan advertising campaign. Tourism officials are hoping the award-winning campaign will draw people like me (who live in nearby states and Canada) to enjoy the state’s beaches, golf courses, fishing spots and bike trails.
If you live in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana or Ohio be prepared to be inundated with TV, radio and print ads boasting of Michigan’s “unspoiled beauty and opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.”

If you plan to hold off on taking a summer vacation until later in the season you might consider heading south to Miami. Doing so will guarantee you the chance to be one of the first visitors to the new and improved Fontainebleau resort located at the north end of Miami Beach.
The property is putting the finishing touches on a $1 billion facelift. Hotel execs hope the new additions will “move the resort into the future with a nod to its iconic past.”
The original structure was designed by department-store window icon turned architectural genius, Morris Lapidus. Prior to the renovations the resort’s room count was less than 1,000. When the hotel reopens in a few months it will boast 1,504 rooms including two new towers; 11 restaurants and lounges; a 40,000-square-foot spa; and a new free-form pool shaped like Lapidus’ signature bow-tie design. One of the new restaurants is Gotham Steaks, which is known for its upscale service.
Hotel managers say rooms will start at $239 this fall, and should be available starting in September. Another Fontainebleau is scheduled to open in Las Vegas next year, but room prices have yet to be announced.
