I’ve talked about how much I love television before. I don’t get to watch it nearly as much as I may like it, but that’s why I have a TiVo and lots of shows on DVD so I can watch them on my schedule, typically when I’m exercising. My daughter has developed a similar love for her television shows, only she doesn’t hit the treadmill. So we have a deal, especially where her favorite shows like “Drake and Josh” are concerned.
Exercise on Cue
We play the television exercise game. For those needing a crash course, you choose a moment or moments that occur frequently in a favored series and this is when you do your exercise. For example, if you’re on the treadmill, you kick up the speed for 1 minute every time Booth says “Bones” on Bones.
So in short, the rules are:
- Choose a television show you enjoy
- Choose moments that are popular in the show
- Perform that exercise whenever that moment happens on the show
Show Suggestions
- Drake & Josh – For my daughter it’s whenever either of them says the others name!
- The Closer – Every time Brenda Leigh Johnson says “Thank you, thank you so much.”
- So You Think You Can Dance – Whenever the judges criticize something in the dance
- Stargate: Atlantis – Whenever someone snarls “Rodney!” or says “The Ancients”
- House – Whenever House pops some vicodin
- Desperate Housewives – Whenever there’s a ‘dadadoom’ close-up on one of the wives
- Without a Trace – Whenever they do a close up of the timeline
- General Hospital – Whenever Jason says looks ‘pained’
- Commercials – For fun and if you watch commercials, ramp it up whenever you see a commercial for a pharmaceutical
- CSI Miami – Every time Horatio does something with his sunglasses or delivers a ‘one-liner’ – be prepared for a hard workout
These are just for fun, as always and if all you did was chuckle, appreciate the calorie burn for laughter.
