Summers on Coney Island

One of the best vacations my family and I shared was our trip to Coney Island in New York. We had talked about it for years and then two summers ago, decided to take the plunge. I have to tell you that we had so much fun at this amusement park. Between the Creepshow at the Freakshow, the Coney Island Film Festival, museums, food, and tons of entertainment, it was amazing.

The best part of this vacation, or at least close to it, was the price. Considering how expensive most amusement parks are today, I could not believe that we got into Coney Island for just $0.99! That is just unheard of but it is true. At that price, anyone can afford to go. Even if you do not ride anything or attend any shows, you will have a blast just milling about.

I remember when we were there that 10 live shows were occurring. Visiting the Sideshows by the Seashore was incredible. From there, we walked through a number of historical buildings, bought some souvenirs in the gift shop, and then ate what else – Coney dogs. If you want to take your family to Coney Island, just remember that the schedules change each summer but they are all exciting and fun.

If you go during the hot summer months, then splashing around in the Sunlite Pool would help cool you off. This massive pool was first built in 1925 but today, it still measures 200 feet wide and 401 feet long. Just to give you an idea of how vast this pool is, it is capable of circulating more than three million gallons of water at any given time. In addition, the kids will love the Zoom Flume, a turning and twisting chute slide, and Pipeline Plunge, which is a 45-foot tall, enclosed slide, or the Cyclone, a 70-foot spiral tube slide, along with three others.

Finally, you can also enjoy a number of rides on Coney Island for all ages. For instance, the Scream Machine screeches upwards to 50 feet, followed by dropping in a freefall. If the family loves roller coasters, then the Python is ideal. This coaster has a first drop of 40 feet and 1,100 feet of track. Other favorites include the Tilt-O-Wheel, Ferris Wheel, Bumper Cars, Carousel, Pedal Boats, and more.
