Sunday Funnies: The Batmobile, A Broken Tooth, And A Bauble Gone Missing

THE BATMOBILE

It’s considered by many as a cultural icon–the Batmobile–popularized in comics and movies has a new owner this morning.

The Cape Crusader’s vehicle was sold yesterday at the Florida Collector Car Auction, but before it was its former owner (dressed like Batman) spent the day cruising the streets of South Florida trying to drum up interest for the auction.

I don’t know about you, but seeing some guy dressed up in a Batman costume cruising down the street in a Batmobile is not half as funny as watching the looks on pedestrian’s faces as he drives by.

The car is a 1966 replica of the one used on TV’s “Batman” and includes gadgets such as rocket tubes, parachutes, and a Bat Ray Protector—though none of them work.

There’s no word on how much the new owner forked over for the pimped out ride, but according to auction officials, other replicas in the past have sold in the $100,000 range.

A BROKEN TOOTH

If you have ever doubted that we live in a sue-happy society, perhaps this next story will help convince you it’s true.

A Massachusetts woman is suing her hometown for $5,000 over a broken tooth. According to news reports, the woman broke a tooth on a Tootsie Roll she took out of a candy jar in an office located in the town hall. The woman reportedly went in to obtain a dog license and took the piece of candy from the jar because she was hungry.

“I took the candy, so it’s partially my fault,” the 40-year-old woman told local reporters. “But I wouldn’t have taken it if it wasn’t there.”

Now she wants the town to foot her $5,000 dental bill. A spokesperson for the town says the woman’s request has been forwarded to the town’s insurance company. Meanwhile (this is the part that made me laugh), the candy jar and the Tootsie Rolls are reportedly still at the clerk’s office.

A BAUBLE GONE MISSING

A Michigan woman who thought someone broke into her home and stole her custom-made $5,000 wedding ring didn’t realize she was sleeping with the “thief.”

According to news reports, the woman called police after thoroughly searching her home for the jewel encrusted wedding ring. All the while the woman’s grandmother insisted she knew who had taken the ring: the family pooch.

A few hours and a couple of X-rays later—the woman’s grandmother was proved right. The bauble was in the stomach of the woman’s pit bull, Missy, who apparently has expensive taste.

“I couldn’t believe it,” the woman told local reporters. “I didn’t think so at the time, but it’s funny now.”

The woman’s grandmother said it made sense since the dog would often chew on household appliances, electric blankets, even watches.

The dog was reportedly taken to a local animal hospital where she was given peroxide and out came the ring—intact.
