Sunday mornings are my favorite time. Ever since getting divorced is seems like Sunday morning is really the only time Hailey and I can slow down and just enjoy each other’s company.
When she was younger there was always so much to do, the weeks were packed and Saturday was super busy with all the household stuff that was neglected all week, but Sunday was our day. Sunday has always been the day we get to slow down, we have a huge breakfast and spend most of the day in our pajamas.
We don’t always “do” things together, although sometimes we’ll go to the movies or do a little shopping. Usually it’s a pajama day spent at opposite ends of the couch either watching a movie on DVD or reading books. The evenings we will give each other facial masks or paint our nails. It’s just a day to be together and talk about everything and nothing.
I look forward to it all week, probably even more now that Hailey is older than I did when she was younger. Her life has gotten even busier now with work and friends so our time together is rare. During the week Hailey gets home from work as I’m getting ready for bed. I literally see my daughter for about fifteen minutes every day, Monday through Friday.
I guess I’m lucky, she is eighteen and starting her adult life so I’m lucky that Sunday mornings still belong to Momma. I know soon enough she will have her own family and our Sunday mornings will be nothing but a memory. For now, I’m going to enjoy them, I’ll make her favorite breakfast and watch her favorite movies. We’ll talk about work and boys and friends and her hopes and plans for the future. I treasure these moments, because like everything else, they will pass much too quickly.
