Sunday Travel Funnies— “Don’t Worry, It’s ONLY A Safety Problem.”

How would you like to hear that upon boarding your flight and seeing nearly half the seats on your plane roped off? It’s no joke. According to news sources, the pilot of a Spanish air carrier told “nervous passengers” on his flight not to worry when they asked why all but three of the 32 rows on one side of the plane were taped off. A Spanish newspaper reports that the captain addressed the situation on the plane’s intercom system by reportedly saying: “We will not be able to use that part of the plane because we have a safety problem with the door at the front. Don’t worry, it’s only a safety problem.”

Some savvy fliers voiced concerned about the plane possibly tipping over in mid-air since it would be flying with a heavier load on one side. But an airline spokesperson explained that the plane was given the okay to fly, but since one of the plane’s eight emergency exit slides was not working the company had to restrict seating on the flight.

Illinois transportation officials didn’t dare use the same line when motorists called in to inquire about a three-mile streak of a bright orange substance that covered westbound lanes of Interstate 55-70 near East St. Louis during Thursday morning’s rush-hour.

According to a St. Louis newspaper, a white tractor-trailer was spilling the substance as it motored down the freeway. Sounds innocent enough, though not to the drivers whose vehicles were doused with the orange paint-like substance.

One motorists told reporters: “With the way people were just driving through it, there are going to be lots of cars with orange tires and orange paint on their vehicles.”

Some motorists traveling in the opposite direction told reporters that they couldn’t help but grimace as the unassuming truck driver sped along the highway tracking the orange mess.

A representative from the Illinois Department of Transportation told reporters they don’t plan to remove the streak any time soon, figuring any attempts to do so might create a bigger mess.

As for the driver of the truck, authorities say he may have broken various traffic laws, from releasing a hazardous material on the road to defacing lane markings. Either way transportation officials say the incident was no laughing matter as far as they were concerned.
