Sunday Travel Funnies: Real Embarrassing/Real Deal

REAL EMBARRASSING

What is it with “American Idol” contestants and judges and flying? First, Paula Abdul makes headlines for her belligerent behavior on board a flight a couple of months ago and now Clay Aiken is alleged to have made the skies not-so friendly for a fellow passenger on board a flight to Oklahoma.

According to news reports, the “American Idol” runner-up was involved in an airplane disturbance with another passenger yesterday while en route to Tulsa International Airport. Fellow passengers say the dispute on the Continental Airlines flight took place between Aiken and a female passenger. Aiken, who was reportedly traveling to perform in a concert, was said to have gotten into a scuffle with the woman after he placed his foot on her chair’s armrest. An FBI agent looking into the matter told news reporters that the woman allegedly “shoved” Aiken’s foot during an argument about the placement of his leg.

The flight crew was able to resolve the issue, but both the woman and Aiken were held at the airport until FBI agents were able to question them. According to police, no injuries were reported and no arrests were made. However, concertgoers who attended Aiken’s performance told news reporters that the former “Idol” joked on-stage about “being beaten up by a girl earlier in the day.”

REAL DEAL

Talk about a real travel deal… a glitch in the parking meters located on the campus of Colorado State University used to give motorists the best deal in town… but not anymore. The meter has expired on the cut-rate parking. For months the meters have been confusing older pennies for a quarter and would dole out 30 minutes for just one cent.

Campus police reported the flaw to the meters’ manufacturer after it found an unusually large amount of pennies in the meters this spring. It also helped that a graduating student revealed the glitch to the campus newspaper.

Police say they are unsure how many of the university’s 674 meters had the “problem,” but all of them are being replaced. According to the campus newspaper, apparently you would only get the deal if your pennies were made before 1982, when the U.S. Mint switched to a lighter-weight coin with less copper content.

Financially strapped CSU students say they are sorry to see the bargain go.
