Some obnoxious guy I met at a rest area in Omaha once told me that traffic laws were made for other people. I thought about him when I heard about the man in Utah who insists: “Traffic laws are God’s laws” and takes it upon himself to enforce them.
According to Utah police, a local Church of Christ minister has been on their radar screen for a while ever since officers received numerous complaints that he made a practice of jumping in front of fast cars in his neighborhood, sticking brooms in their way and backing his own car in front of other drivers.
The minister reportedly denied the allegations, but police cited him for disorderly conduct anyway.
The outraged minister told police that people who complain about him and deny they are speeders are sinners.
“If we don’t obey the law of the land, then God will hold us accountable. The laws here in this land are His laws, not man’s laws,” the minister said.
Moving on to Wyoming.
Did you hear about the 15-year-old girl who crashed her SUV into a local high school during a driving lesson? Turns out it wasn’t an urban myth after all. According to police, the teen caused $50,000 in damage when she lost control of the vehicle while practicing driving techniques with her father in the school’s parking lot.
According to police reports, the girl was making a right turn when her SUV vaulted over a sidewalk and into the north side of the building. Luckily neither the teen nor her father was injured. The SUV, though, suffered $3,500 worth of damage.
Finally, in Arkansas, a man looking to catch some zzz’s at a local Ramada Inn ended up spending the night in a local jail. The traveler reportedly called police after hotel clerks refused to refund his money when he decided to move to another motel.
According to police, the man checked into the Ramada Inn about 1 a.m. Wednesday but decided after a few minutes that he didn’t want to stay there. When employees refused to give him his money back, he called police to complain about the motel’s service. When police arrived they found that the there was a warrant out for the man’s arrest and took him to the county jail.
