Super Cool Birthday Party Ideas for Your 5 Year Old, Part 1

Children have active imaginations. Some days they are superheroes saving the family cat from impending doom. Some days they are princesses ruling royal subjects (or siblings) to do her bidding. Capturing this spirit will make your child’s birthday party super cool.

Consider one of these ideas for your child’s next party:

Pirate Party:

Invitations that look like treasure maps where the “X” marks the party spot is fun way to invite your guests. Continue the adventure by sending the little pirates on an adventure to find a chest full of party favors. Mark each party favor with the child’s name so there is no confusion. Party favors can include temporary tattoos, gummy fish, and candy necklaces housed in mini treasure chests.

Surround your dining room table with pieces of cardboard to create a ship. Other options would be bulletin board paper or poster board. I suggest using brown paper to give the pirate ship look. You can add portholes and other details by using paint or creating them on paper and gluing on your ship. Employ a three-tiered serving tray with goodies as your centerpiece and top it with a pirate flag.

Knight Party:

Invite knights to the party with a royal scroll invitation. Knights in shining armor can make their own tunic and coat of arms as a craft. If you are looking for a quest to send your knights on then consider a game of capture the flag. Another option would be slaying a piñata dragon filled with gold coins.

Ballerina Party:

If your child loves to jete to Swan Lake, then a ballerina party may be the perfect fit. Think about renting a dance studio where a ballet teacher can teach a mini class. If you want to have the party at home, simply have a friend who is familiar with ballet host a mini class for the little ballerinas. You can make tulle tutus for party favors or have the girls make them for a craft. Using tulle to decorate the tables and tie around the backs of the chairs will provide ballet flair while being budget friendly.
