Super Size Me…Not!

Although this movie was made in 2004, I didn’t see it until recently. It is the documentary, “Super Size Me.”

Let me tell you, if you have a McDonald’s habit that you are trying to kick, all you have to do is watch this movie and I can almost guarantee you will lose your appetite for the fast-food chain.

I did. In fact, I lost my appetite for a lot of things…that is, anything that is fatty.

Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock decided to conduct an experiment in which he would only eat food from McDonalds for 30 days. He went into this as a very healthy young man. He came out not only overweight but sick.

Although it was kind of a crazy experiment, he at least called upon medical professionals to help him through it. He knew the health dangers but he was trying to make a really good point to us.

It became unappetizing to watch him eat. Although I’m not a big McDonald’s fan (except for their sausage McMuffins with cheese and hashbrowns), it still made me realize the impact that fast-food has, no matter what chain you visit.

By the end of the 30 days he had gained 24.5 pounds. His cholesterol shot up and his liver became fatty. He was depressed, exhausted, experienced massive headaches and mood swings.

But he also increased his risk of heart disease and heart failure two times. In a nutshell, he was no longer healthy.

Now some might argue that his experiment wasn’t realistic. After all, who would eat fast-food every single day? Well, there are some who eat it at least two or three days per week.

But even if it’s not fast-food, in general we Americans don’t eat a healthy diet. So the fact remains that we are at risk of suffering lots of health problems.

I really encourage everyone to watch this movie. It is very enlightening and just might be the motivation you need to make some serious changes.
