Super Spring Flings

With the price of gas skyrocketing and the mild weather spreading across the entire country, who needs to leave home for a spring fling?

Me.

We live on the Frozen Tundra, so even though Mother Nature has so kindly brought with her summer-like temperatures in March, we still need to travel in order to have fun in the sun and surf.

If you too are looking to escape to a tropical locale this spring, but your budget doesn’t allow for roundtrip tickets to Hawaii or the Bahamas, then consider heading to Florida, California or Arizona.

Currently, one of the best ways to score a decent deal on a spring fling to a popular family hot spot is to bundle. Check out travel aggregate sites, such as Expeida.com and Orbitz.com. The online companies offer major discounts for families looking to bundle airfare, hotel and car rental. Bundling allows you to avoid paying individually for amenities, and instead pay one price for multiple services, typically at drastically reduced prices. Depending on how flexible you are with your travel dates, length of stay and destination city, you could score airfare, plus lodging and ground transportation for up to 50 percent off rack rates.

Another way to save is to look for money-saving specials, such as spend three nights, get the fourth free; kids stay free; kids eat free; or get $100 off a four-night stay. Package deals will also help you save money. For instance, if you are staying at a resort that is located near a major theme park, look for promotions that offer free admission to the park with a one, two or three-night stay. Just remember, if a deal sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Read the fine print very carefully before committing to a travel deal.
