Super Stars, Super Givers

The twins were born and photographed. The cash was handed over and we’re now learning where all that dough is going.

According to a statement issued by the Global Health Committee earlier this week, roughly $2 million of the $14 million Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie made from selling snaps of their newborn twins will go to help fight HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis in Ethiopia.

As you might recall Ethiopia is the country where their 3-year-old daughter Zahara was born. Now children there will have a second chance at life thanks to the Jolie-Pitt Foundation. Execs with the Global Health Committee say they will use the hefty donation to build a center in the capital city of Addis Ababa for children affected by the disease and establish a program to treat tuberculosis in children and adults. According to leaders with the organization, in honor of the Jolie-Pitt’s generosity the new center will be named for Zahara.

“It is our hope when Zahara is older she will take responsibility of the clinic and continue its mission,” Pitt said in a statement.

The “Ocean’s Thirteen” star also noted how pleased he and Jolie were with the work the Global Health Committee has done in opening and running the Maddox Chivan Children’s Center in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. That center is named after Jolie and Pitt’s oldest son, 7-year-old Maddox, who was adopted from Cambodia. According to Pitt, since opening its doors in February 2006, the center has provided medical treatment, education and social services to thousands of children affected by HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis.

“Our goal is to transfer the success we have had in Cambodia to Ethiopia, where people are needlessly dying of tuberculosis, a curable disease, and HIV/AIDS, a treatable disease,” Jolie said in her own statement released a few days ago.

No word if the super giving couple will also fork over funds to build a namesake center for 4-year-old son Pax, who was adopted from Vietnam. Jolie and Pitt are also the parents of 2-year-old Shiloh and twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, who were born in July. Jolie gave birth to Shiloh in Namibia and delivered the couple’s twins in France.
