Supporting Your Spouse

One of the most important things that you can do is to support your spouse. Your relationship with your spouse is the foundation of your family. Your children need to know that you support each other. They need to know that they can’t play you against each other as well. By supporting your spouse you are showing your love for him or her. Here are four different areas where you should support your spouse.

1) You should support your spouse in his or her work. If your husband loves his job and wants to talk about it when he gets home, try to ask him questions so that you understand what he is doing every day. If he doesn’t care for his job, support him by giving him time to unwind and time to relax and do what he wants during the week. If your wife works help out with things around the house, and if your wife stays at home still help out. It is important to realize that a stay at home mom is working all day every day as well.

2) It is important to support your spouse in the gospel. This does include supporting your spouse in the calling that he or she has. In addition, this can mean making time to study the gospel together. It means praying together and separately.

3) It is important to support your spouse in the dealings that he or she has with your children. You should never let your children speak negatively about your spouse. It is important that you are united on the important decisions. This will help your family to be strong and unified.

4) It is important to support your spouse in his or her interests. Giving your spouse some time to pursue his interests can do this. You may also spend time learning about his interests and possibly spending time together doing them. This should go both ways in your relationship.
