Proper storage can really enhance your home. When everything has its own place, then you know your home looks and feels better. Not having to search for hours for things is another benefit of good storage. Here are some creative ideas that are sure-fire storage solutions for the things around your home.
If you keep things in boxes in your attic, basement, garage or closet, if can be difficult to know what is in each box. Consequently, you may wind up buying copies of things that you already had but didn’t know that you had. If you have to stack several boxes on top of each other, you can keep track of everything by creating a chart. On an index card, draw a little diagram that shows the order of the boxes. Label, on the card, what is in each box. Then keep the card in a handy place, such as taped to the closet wall, attic door or even onto one of the visible boxes.
If you have anything valuable that won’t be able to fit in a standard safety fire box, consider putting the item in the freezer. In the event of a natural disaster, the item will probably make it through safely. Make sure the item can be frozen, though. Tape in a photo album will lose its stickiness, for example.
If you have extra cords that you want to store, here is a handy way to do just that without them all becoming a tangled mess. Computer cords, appliance cords and even extension cords can benefit from this trick. Use empty paper towel rolls and bathroom tissue rolls to store the cords. You can even write on the outside of the rolls to indicate exactly what the purpose is of each cord. This will keep everything neat and organized.
