Things cannot always go our way. Sometimes we will be buzzing along full of positive vibes and good energy, the customers are coming to us and the money is flowing–other times, well, we find that we are in a slump. Things are bumpy–they aren’t going our way and we find we have to tighten our business belts. We can get through this, we can survive and weather the typical slump…
The first thing to realize is that the slump will pass–whether you are lacking in productivity, energy, contacts, or if you’ve lost some customers or clients or your business is taking another direction–it is temporary. It won’t last forever. I think that it is when we overreact and panic that a typical slump takes on a life of its own and becomes something huge and unmanageable. Also, remember that the more you focus on something, the more likely it is to GROW. Instead of focusing and fussing over what is going wrong, take your energy and attention and put it elsewhere. Before you know it, the slump will have slipped past and your business will be back on track–and you might actually experience some growth in the new area where you have been putting your attention.
Do not take it personally, and don’t let yourself feel ashamed or embarrassed that your business is experiencing a slump. It happens to all of us–even incredibly successful business people have lost businesses, declared bankruptcy or had bad days. Just let it go and know it is going to pass. The only way to survive a business slump is just to accept the inevitability, see what you can do to keep things flowing, and stay creative and flexible. Don’t be tempted to deviate and try things that you know won’t work. Just ride it out and soon things in your business will be back on the productive side of things.
