Looking for some last-minute Easter basket ideas for children? The Easter Bunny is waiting to spring into action this weekend, but many parents like to participate in Easter as well. When it comes to Easter, there’s a lot to choose from in the stores. There are chocolates, candies, and bunnies galore. We like to go for slightly less candy that’s fair trade and high quality, and then we add a few extra items to the Easter Bunny’s stash. If you want to add something that is longer-lasting and less sweet to an Easter basket, what can you choose?
In many parts of North America, Easter is the time when it feels like spring has truly arrived. Add a spring book to your basket. There are many books about changing seasons. Some of my favorites include When the Wind Stops (Charlotte Zolotow), Tell Me a Season (Mary McKenna Siddals), and How Robin Saved Spring (Debbie Oulett). If you celebrate Easter as a religious holiday, add a picture book about the meaning of Easter.
Instead of or in addition to the usual candy, you can also create goodies for an Easter basket. Decorate cupcakes in Easter egg colors and add sprinkles. Twist bread into circles or bake your child her favorite cake.
Add a small toy that will get played with regularly. My daughter loves Playmobil, and they have bunny-themed sets.
Spring is when we need to start bringing out the sunny day clothing. How about a new Easter hat, dress, rain boots, or rain jacket?
If you plan to get out into the garden in the next few weeks, add some child-sized gardening supplies and easy seeds like peas and beans. Place them in a pot that is just the right size for a few plants. Add child-sized gardening gloves and a spray bottle.
What are your Easter basket plans this year?
