Smell that?
It’s the sweet scent of Easter.
Or, in our house, chocolate and jelly beans.
Spring break has given my daughter plenty of time to exercise her creative muscle designing and decorating Easter-themed goodies. The following projects are two of her favorites, though only one is edible:
CANDY FLOWERS
Materials:
Construction paper or cardstock in a variety of colors
8-ounce clear plastic cups
Popsicle sticks or craft sticks
One bag of jelly beans
One bag of Hershey Kisses
One bag of Rolos
One bag of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Minis
Craft glue
Directions:
Use construction paper to cut-out flower petals, leaves and circles. The leaves should be about one to two inches long. The diameter of the flower should be about four inches.
Glue petals, flowers and leaves to one end of a Popsicle stick.
Glue one of the foil-wrapped candies to the middle of the flower.
Fill a clear plastic cup with jelly beans, and place the flower into the cup.
Create about a dozen or so flowers and line them up on an Easter brunch buffet or place them individually around the house to add some spring cheer.
STICKY SWEET FLOWERS
We got this project from the side of the Rice Krispies’ box, but instead of melting mini marshmallows to get the cereal to stick together, we used a jar of marshmallow creme. It is far less messy; not completely mess-free, but it’s one less bowl that you have to scrape.
Ingredients:
3 tablespoons butter
1 jar of marshmallow creme
6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
Canned frosting
Jelly beans, Skittles, MandMs,
Directions:
In large saucepan melt butter over low heat.
Remove from heat; add in marshmallow creme and Rice Krispies.
Stir well until everything is incorporated.
Using a buttered spatula press mixture into 15 by 10 by 1-inch pan coated with cooking spray.
Using flower-shaped cookie cutters coated with cooking spray cut the cereal mixture into blossoms.
Decorate with frosting and candy.
