Sweet Turkey Day Fun

left

Turkey Day is so close I can smell it.

So can my 7-year-old.

However, it’s not make-ahead cranberry sauce, green bean casserole or stuffing that we’re sniffing. Rather, our kitchen is covered in chocolate.

Thanks to the crafty folks at Kellogg’s our pint-sized Thanksgiving guests will be chowing down on homemade chocolate cereal turkey parts. My daughter caught sight of the adorable, edible treats a few mornings ago while perusing the back of the Rice Krispies box. She’s been begging to make them ever since.

Last night she got her wish.

We went to town hand molding sticky turkey legs and funny-faced birds with candy feathers and pretzel legs. They are almost too cute to eat.

If you are looking for a way to bond with your child this Thanksgiving, give these simple, kid-friendly recipes a try:

CRUNCHY CHOCOLATE TURKEYS

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons butter

4 cups mini marshmallows

6 cups Cocoa Rice Krispies

Creamy peanut butter

Mini pretzel sticks

Semi-sweet chocolate chips

Candy corn

Skittles

Directions:

In large saucepan melt butter over low heat.

Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.

Add 6 cups of Cocoa Krispies. Stir until well coated.

Use one big and one small cookie cutter per turkey on the warm cereal mixture. These will be the turkey’s body and head.

Spread peanut butter on bottom of the smaller circle and attach to the larger circular piece.

Insert candy corn into body for tail feathers.

Insert pretzel sticks for legs.

Melt chocolate chips and use them to attach Skittles candies for eyes and beak.

CHOCOLATE DRUMSTICK

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons butter

4 cups miniature marshmallows

6 cups Original Rice Krispies

Creamy peanut butter

6 cups Cocoa Rice Krispies

Semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions:

In large saucepan melt butter over low heat.

Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.

Add plain Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until well coated.

Using buttered hands shape cereal mixture into twelve small drumsticks.

Melt chocolate chips.

Spread peanut butter on large end of each drumstick, dip into melted chocolate, and then into Cocoa Krispies cereal.

Refrigerate until firm before serving.
