Switching Up Your Exercise Routine

Do you ever get tired of your regular exercise routine? I know that I do. Some days I just cannot bear the thought of going through the same movements and desire a change.

Did you know that it is recommended that you change your exercise routine every few weeks? Apparently, your body gets so used to the movements that they are not as effective as when you originally started out doing them. When you switch up your exercise routine you are giving your body a surprise attack that says, “This is something new and different. What is going on?” You are also less likely to get bored with exercising in general.

Switching up your routine does not have to be anything dramatic. Even a subtle change can make a difference. If you walk outdoors you may try walking on a track at your local community center if they have one. You may even try using a walking program on DVD and walk in your living room. Your outdoor or indoor jogging track routine can be changed to jog in place on a mini trampoline in the form of rebounding. By the way, this is my newest activity this week. I put on the music and jump around for 30 minutes or so.

Another great random thing to do is to dance. Yes, that is right. Put on the music and dance in no particular fashion for about 30 minutes. This activity that is also tons of fun burns up to 200 calories.

Do not get yourself into a rut and become discouraged due to boredom when you exercise. This will only increase your chances of failure. Find several forms of exercise that you enjoy and make working out something that feels good and that you enjoy. Doing this will improve your health and fitness success.
